Storybook Cottage

Storybook House is a story unto itself. Originally built in 1922 during the height of the storybook style, this charming Seattle home immediately stands out for its unique roof. Composed of steam-bent shingles that slope into a thick rounded roof, it’s reminiscent of the thatched cottage roofs oft associated with far off places, long, long ago. Its exterior both captures a sense of whimsy and exudes craftsmanship with its red window casings, copper roofing, and perfectly landscaped yard. Inside, the home takes on a contemporary flair with clean lines and open spaces. It’s in those contrasts—between inside and out, historic and contemporary, fairytale and real world—that the home’s architecture excels, proving that modern statements and traditional detailing offer intermingled beauty.
