At Gelotte Hommas Architecture, we often merge modern and traditional styles to create unique homes. We’re particularly proud of our Houghton Contemporary Design, which merges contemporary architecture trends with come classic elements for a style that appeals to a wide audience.

The exterior of the Houghton building features simple, geometric construction. Numerous windows are designed to let in plenty of light, especially to the front of the building, which features stacked, square windows. The use of balconies extends the outdoor space in a modern nod to outdoor living, which landscaping using plenty of stone adds a hint of more classic appeal.

Step inside the home, and the first thing you’ll notice is the abundance of wide open spaces. Raised walkways allow for a unique, loft-style design of the second floor while leaving the lower level open with tall ceilings. The color scheme is primarily neutral — lots of beige and wood — with touches of color here and there for modern interest.

In the kitchen of this Houghton home, you really see the contemporary architect style at work. A kitchen island with a gleaming black top takes center stage. Stacked stainless steel appliances are in perfect balance with natural wood cabinetry, which features nickel hardware for a modern touch. The floor is a beige stone tile, which accentuates the wooden cabinets without creating to monotonous of a look.

Throughout the home, stone and wood are used to add a slight Craftsman appeal. The light fixtures are carefully placed to add ambient light and a warm glow.
