The Architecture Behind the Bellevue Arts Museum

The Bellevue Arts Museum is a creative mecca here in Bellevue Seattle. While we admire the art within and it provides great creative inspiration, the building itself is an architectural piece of art.

The Bellevue Arts Museum is a compilation of glass, textured concrete, and aluminum that creates a bold and modern silhouette in the downtown scene. The building, set at three stories high and 36,000 square feet, provides a welcoming structure for art and visitors.

Steven Holl is the internationally renowned mind behind the beautiful structure, who decided to play with light in many imaginative ways within the structure. Skylights as well as the abundance of glass and metal make for a great deal of natural light and reflective surfaces in the museum. As you move through different periods of art, the light style changes, as if the building itself were to change with the subject being examined.

On your next visit to the Bellevue Art Museum, be sure to get a close look at the amazing structure, and not just the pieces within.
