2024 Seattle Gingerbread Village

Gelotte Hommas Drivdahl is honored to be a part of the 2024 Seattle Gingerbread Village!

What Is the Seattle Gingerbread Village?

The 30th Annual Gingerbread Village by Sheraton Grand Seattle is back! The annual event benefits Breakthrough T1D’s efforts to cure type 1 diabetes.

Each year, the Sheraton Grand Seattle hosts the Seattle Gingerbread Village, benefiting Breakthrough T1D and its mission to support research and advocacy for type 1 diabetes. This cherished holiday event brings together Seattle’s premier architecture firms to craft intricate gingerbread displays that transform imagination into art.

With cookies, candy, and frosting as our materials, we are tasked with telling stories through design—reinterpreting the tools of our trade to inspire wonder.

2024 Theme: Iconic Destinations

This year’s theme, Iconic Destinations, invites you to journey through the world’s most beautiful cities:

  • Agra, India
  • London, England
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Paris, France (that’s us!)

Each scene represents collaboration at its finest: local architecture firms, Sheraton’s talented pastry chefs, and the courageous Breakthrough T1D Elves—children living with type 1 diabetes—working together to create breathtaking gingerbread marvels.

At Gelotte Hommas Drivdahl Architecture, we approach this tradition as we do all of our work: with attention to detail and joy in beauty. It is a small way to give back through artistry and craft.

About Breakthrough T1D

Formerly known as JDRF, Breakthrough T1D leads research to cure type 1 diabetes (T1D), a disease that affects 1.45 million people in the United States alone. T1D can appear at any age, often without warning. While its causes remain complex, continued research brings us closer to understanding and addressing both genetic and environmental factors.

Visit their website to learn more about life with T1D and the ongoing efforts to advance treatments and find a cure.
