We mentioned a few weeks ago that we have two major holiday traditions in the Gelotte Hommas Drivdahl office. The first is the JDRF Gingerbread Village (currently on display at the Seattle City Center). The second is our custom designed holiday card.
It’s a tradition dating back decades, to the days when we were a Bellevue architecture firm known simply as Curtis Gelotte Architects. Back then, we designed each year’s card with craft and care, and we hand-signed each card to express our sincere gratitude to our clients and colleagues. That tradition continues.
This year, we celebrated our past, present, and future in our card’s custom design. We reached back into our archives for our 1997 holiday card: an exquisite tree-shaped, snowflake-edged Christmas City plan originally designed by Duncan McRoberts. Then, we built on our past.
Our 2017 card maintains the same holiday design concept McRoberts sketched twenty years ago, but the city grid now reflects the new GHDA logo–our architectural tools of the trade. “It’s a beautiful way to honor our strong foundations and look forward to our future,” architect Eric Drivdahl reflects.
Card Signing
Yesterday, everyone in our Bellevue architecture office grabbed their favorite pen and gathered together for two hours of festive card signing and cookie eating. As we all signed each and every one of the more than 700 holiday cards, we reminisced over the stories these cards represent: connections found, relationships strengthened, craft perfected, and new, unique spaces to call “home.” It’s truly a privilege to address these cards to so many homes, knowing that they contribute to holiday traditions budding within the dream houses our clients entrusted to us.
So to everyone (clients, colleagues, contractors, and more) who has helped us breathe life into the art of architecture: thank you.
We wish you the very best of holiday seasons and the very happiest of new years. We look forward to embarking on another thirty-five more years of custom design with you by our sides.
