If you are a car collector, like the ex-late night show host Jay Leno, then you’ll need a place to store all of your cars. You won’t want them cluttering up the exterior of your home—not to mention that you’ll want to protect them from the elements as well. Jay Leno is famous for his collection of cars—of which he has an astonishing 130 of! While odds are that you probably don’t have a car collection as extensive as Leno’s, you probably do need plenty of space even for a more modest collection. This requires a custom car garage—something that we here at Gelotte Hommas Architecture have experience building. Take for example our beautiful rustic custom garage, The Car Lodge.
We didn’t want this custom car garage to feel like a parking lot garage, so we incorporated a rustic architecture in order to make it feel warmer and more inviting. In fact, you’d never know that The Car Lodge was a garage housing a collection of antique automobiles from the outside since it looks just like a cozy little rustic design. We did this by using several different natural materials to create warmth—from a foundation of different colored stone to the wood shingle siding. The roof’s eaves also help to give it a more home-like feel. Large windows with white trim, a large stone chimney and wooden doors help round out the exterior.
Once inside, it becomes more apparent that it is a garage. Green floors give the garage a bit of character and elegance, while the open space makes it easy to not only display the cars but to move them out as well.
