When it comes to custom home designs, one style that has been growing in popularity over the last few years is the Mediterranean house design. A recent article on Architectural Digest even explored a variety of different types of Mediterranean house designs that we recommend taking a look at. Here at Gelotte Hommas Architecture, we are are big fans of the Mediterranean style and are very familiar with it. In fact, one of our most successful designs was our Tuscan home design, Villa at Sebastian.
The Villa at Sebastian is a traditional Mediterranean home that’s located in the middle of Bellevue. The Tuscan home design boasts numerous elements that you typically find in the Mediterranean style, from the grand arches and pillars that frame the entrances to the red shingle roof that helps to add warmth in addition to an inviting quality to the home’s look. We also incorporated numerous balconies, both inside and outside of the home. The exterior balconies give the homeowners a chance to enjoy their stunning natural surroundings, while the interior balconies allow them to look down at the living spaces below – and also help keep the floor plan open and spacious.
Huge windows and skylights help to bring in an abundance of natural light, while Mediterranean style tile floors help add both elegance and a more classical feel at the same time. The pillars holding up the balconies definitely add a classical touch to the proceedings as well. To help soften up the aesthetic, we’ve used warmer wood features throughout the interior, from the cabinetry to the stairways to the trim around the windows and on the ceilings.
