Rustic Interior Designing 101

Sometimes, the home best-suited to a particular location is simple and uncomplicated rather than urbane and sophisticated. Rustic interior homes have a long, proud tradition of providing warm and welcoming living environments for their homeowners and their families. Better still, said residences can be updated using modern methods and materials to make them better-suited to modern tastes with minimal changes. Here are some examples of how our Kirkland architecture firm incorporated modern elements into Cedar Haven while still remaining true to the core principles of rustic interior homes:

Cedar Haven is the quintessential example of rustic interior design, as it incorporates modern elements while remaining true to rustic interior design’s core principles.
  • As a rule, rustic homes such as cabins and cottages should be made using common materials that can be found in the local region. For example, the earliest examples of log cabins were made using notched logs stacked on top of one another and held together using chinking. Likewise, Cedar Haven is made using stone and wood, much of which were reclaimed from its location.
  • Modern examples of rustic homes tend to have bright and open interiors to keep them from feeling cramped and closed-in. This can be seen throughout the interior of Cedar Haven, which uses the increased light and ventilation to make it feel that much closer to nature.
  • Rustic interiors are meant to be places where the occupants can rest and relax without fear of scuffing their surroundings. Appropriately enough, Cedar Haven’s construction is strong and reliable, while still making use of natural elements, mixed tiles, and wood patterns to liven it up with some color.
