Homes with a European look provide some old-world charm that you don’t see often in the US. With some careful planning, you can create your own European style home and feel as though you’re vacationing in the English or French countryside all year round.
The following ideas can help you get started on this project:
- Create a welcoming entryway. Choosing an exterior done in neutral or warm tones and lush landscaping along the walkway leading up to your front door gives your home instant old-world appeal. The type of material you select for your home’s exterior can also have a big impact. Focus on materials with a smooth appearance, instead of going with more conventional siding.
- Open up the kitchen. Consider placing the kitchen in the middle of the floor plan, surrounded by open living room and dining room areas. Have windows installed instead of upper cabinets to create an even more authentic European look and make the kitchen as open and airy as possible.
- Enjoy the fresh air. Add a covered patio that serves as an outdoor living space in order to enjoy lounging in the fresh air after lunch or dinner. Fill the room with comfortable furniture, a table and chairs for dining, and a fireplace for a cozier feel.
- Add wine storage that has some flair. Create a separate nook in the dining room for storing wine. Install an elegant chandelier above the storage rack to draw attention to this unusual centerpiece.
